Interventional angiography guided procedures via the femoral artery approach can benefit from having a stable work surface placed above the patient, close to the access site for the operator to rest their hands upon. This offers a secure alternative to placing surgical equipment on the drape and the patient’s body.

Most people have heard of our Retrograde IR Platform. But were you aware that we also offer an Antegrade IR Platform?

Side by side comparison of the Adept Medical Retrograde IR Platform and the Antegrade IR Platform

As the name implies, the Retrograde IR Platform has been designed for ease of retrograde femoral access, while the Antegrade IR Platform, for ease of antegrade femoral access.

Let’s break this down further.

Retrograde IR Platform

The Retrograde IR Platform is a long, stable structure that can be placed above the patient’s legs, creating extra room for all the materials and tools you need. The platform edge by the patient’s thigh tapers down to align with the femoral access site for a smooth guide wire transition.

Our device is also height adjustable to suit the specific patient size, offering additional height when used with our Leg Extension.

There’s two ways to set up this platform:

One) Standard Platform only
For a shorter device, the standard platform is your ideal solution. The platform length is suited for procedures utilising shorter wires and rapid exchange catheter systems.

Two) Standard Platform plus Extension
By adding the optional platform extension, the working space is extended by approximately half a metre. This platform length is suited for neuro radiology where longer  ‘over the wire catheter systems’ are often required.

Antegrade IR Platform

The Antegrade IR Platform – while also a long, stable structure, is instead placed over the supine patient’s shoulder while they rest on the imaging table. A narrow portion extends along the patient’s side offering a supporting surface for the operators hands close to the femoral access site. For a smooth guidewire transition, the platform above and beyond the patient’s head is level with the femoral access site.

This device is also height adjustable to suit the patient size. But unlike the Retrograde IR Platform, it does not offer any option to extend the length of the platform.
